Absorbent System

Gasoline vapours consist mainly of the lightest gasoline components, such as propane, butane, pentane, hexane, and perhaps benzene. If the recovered gasoline vapours were to be directly condensed into liquid, this liquid would be highly evaporative or perhaps even boiling at ambient temperature and pressure. The recovered product therefore must be blended back into the product flow of the terminal.

The simplest and most economical way to blend the recovered product back is by circulating a suitable amount of absorbent from one of the terminal storage tanks to the VRU and back. The absorbent is typically gasoline.
